Washington House Bill 1491 would change the law regarding passing pedestrians and bicycles. Currently, drivers are required to "pass to the left at a safe distance." The new bill would specify a minimum distance of three feet when passing. The bill also makes an exception for driving to the left of the center of the roadway when passing a pedestrian or bicycle.

Rode in the Portland Critical Mass. Only three other riders showed up to join the four of us from Seattle. We had a fun, but cold, ride through downtown Portland. We rode across two bridges and were honked at once.

Although the turnout for Mass was small, we saw a large number of cyclists out.

Thanks to Fold, Ron, and Austin for riding with us, and thanks to the women in our group for leading the ride!
